Celebrating Lavard

a musical and poetic tribute to our beloved Newton family member, Lavard Curtis of Nassau, Bahamas, who migrated to Spirit
with seven other colleagues as a result
of the charter plane crash--Oct. 4, 2010-
Nassau, Bahamas.

Music from THIS IS FAITH by Clyde Deloris
Herring (nomsa9@hotmail.com). Thank you, Nomsa, kind "Mother of Compassion", for permission to use your music for this tribute
to another loving musician who has "gone Home."

This tribute is not only to Lavard and family and friends remaining here but to the beloveds of the others who made their spiritual transitions as well.

  1. Please pardon the little glitch in the sound at the end of the This Is Faith recording.
I've played it so much that this is indication that I need to purchase a new one from Nomsa.

For those who somehow cannot hear the podcast, here is the poem created this a.m. in honor of Lavard--(just slightly different from the version read on the podcast):

    In Tribute to Lavard

    Lavard,
    In those short 25 years
    that you were here,
    you accomplished such success.
    Man, you were up there
    with The Bahamas' biggest,
    brightest, and best!
    yet remaining humble
    and God-centered
with a kind word, good deed,
    and ready smile
    for the eldest of kin
    the youngest of little neighborhood
    children and church family friends;
    lifting souls with your music,
    then assisting other musicians, too,
Lavard, there's no one on this earth
who can take the place of you.
In this time of misguided youth crime,
    you were a laid-back, God-adoring youth
with peace and love on your mind.
A positive role model for young and old,
a luminous life that was a joy to behold.
So as you step into the Light
    of the Christ
and your Mom Jackie's welcoming arms
    beyond Heaven's doors,
look back for the smallest while
    with that special Lavard smile
and know that you are treasured
in many hearts and souls back here
    forevermore...

    from the poet's pen
    of your Brooklyn-based Aunt Lin
